Published under the title “Suna Chandi”, the Gospel of Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, attributed to the Apostle Matthew (also known as Levi). Matthew was a tax collector by profession, but the Lord Jesus invited him to follow Him, and he became one of the disciples.
This Gospel was written especially for readers from a Jewish background, to prove to them that our Lord Jesus Christ is indeed the promised Savior foretold in the ancient Scriptures. It contains numerous references to Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled in the person and ministry of Christ.
The Gospel of Matthew narrates in detail the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ministry, miracles, teachings, parables, training of the disciples, and the events of the crucifixion and resurrection. One of its most prominent sections is the “Sermon on the Mount” (chapters 5 to 7), in which Christ clearly outlined the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Gospel of Matthew not only provides a strong foundation of faith but also offers practical guidance for discipleship, the Kingdom of God, and the ministry of the Gospel. It concludes with the great command of Jesus Christ, known as the Great Commission:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
